Which gloves to give? A gift guide for women and men
A pair of gloves is one of the most personal gifts there is: they are worn all winter long, right against the skin. But you still need to choose the right model, the right material… and the right size. As glovemakers since 1996, we help people find the perfect present every season. Here is our method, for her and for him.
1. Start with their everyday life
Before thinking about colour, ask yourself a simple question: how do they wear their gloves?
- Always-connected city dweller: touchscreen lambskin leather gloves, to use a smartphone without baring their hands.
- Someone who feels the cold: a cashmere lining, or sheepskin leather gloves lined with sheepskin.
- Lover of open roads: unlined driving gloves in deerskin or lambskin, often two-tone.
- Fan of relaxed comfort: wool gloves or fingerless mitts, warm and easy to wear.
2. Gloves as a gift for a woman
Our Prestige women's range brings together our lambskin, deerskin and sheepskin leather gloves, with silk, cashmere or sheepskin linings. Silk keeps the hand slim and elegant, ideal for gloves worn from morning to night; cashmere offers soft warmth for truly cold days. As for colours, be bold: some models come in around twenty shades, from timeless black to red, camel or Deep Blue. A colourful pair is often the gift people would never have bought for themselves.
For a cosier touch, consider leather mittens lined with sheepskin, or curly shearling gloves with their soft, curly feel.
3. Gloves as a gift for a man
For him, the Prestige men's range offers lambskin leather gloves lined with cashmere, silk or wool, deerskin gloves lined with cashmere, and sheepskin gloves. Classic shades (black, brown, cork, aluminium) go just as well with a city coat as with a sportier jacket. For a motoring enthusiast, our unlined deerskin driving gloves in two-tone colourways make an original gift.
4. The size puzzle
This is the main hesitation when buying gloves as a gift. Glove size corresponds to the circumference of the hand, measured around the knuckles of the dominant hand (the right hand for a right-hander). Our size guide gives the equivalent in centimetres: from 6 to 8½ for women, from 7½ to 10 for men. If you are between two sizes, we recommend choosing the smaller one.
A few tips to find out their size without spoiling the surprise:
- check the label of a pair of gloves they already wear;
- discreetly ask a friend or relative for help;
- choose a one-size model (see below).
And if you get it wrong, don't worry: size exchanges are free, for the same model in another size or for another item of equal value, within 14 days of receiving the order.
5. One-size solutions
To give gloves without knowing the size, two families are made for you:
- Flexi-leather: our women's Flexicuir range combines lambskin leather with stretch spandex. The gloves adapt to every hand, lined or unlined, short or long, plain or metallic.
- Wool: our women's wool gloves and fingerless mitts come in one size, in 80% wool and 20% nylon (many are touchscreen-compatible) or in 90% merino wool and 10% cashmere. Men's models are available too.
In short
| For whom? | Our suggestion |
|---|---|
| Her, elegant and active | Silk-lined lambskin, touchscreen |
| Her, feels the cold | Cashmere-lined lambskin, or sheepskin lined with sheepskin |
| Him, classic | Cashmere-lined lambskin or deerskin |
| Him, car enthusiast | Unlined deerskin driving gloves |
| Size unknown | One-size flexi-leather or wool |
Well chosen, a pair of gloves will accompany the person who receives it for many winters. Happy gift hunting!
