How to choose the right leather glove size
A leather glove that is too big wrinkles and lets the cold in; too small, it restricts movement and wears out faster. The good news: finding your size takes only two minutes, with a simple tape measure.
Step 1: measure the right hand
Take the measurement on your dominant hand: your right hand if you are right-handed, your left if you are left-handed. It is usually the wider of the two.
Step 2: measure your hand circumference
- Hold your hand out flat, fingers together.
- Wrap the tape measure around your palm at the knuckles, excluding the thumb.
- Bend your hand slightly, without making a fist, and note the measurement in centimetres.
Step 3: read the size chart
Leather glove sizes are traditionally expressed in inches (French sizing), often alongside a "sport" size from XS to XXL.
| Hand circumference | Women | Men |
|---|---|---|
| 16.2 cm | 6 (XS) | – |
| 17.6 cm | 6½ (S) | – |
| 18.9 cm | 7 (M) | – |
| 20.3 cm | 7½ (L) | 7½ (XS) |
| 21.7 cm | 8 (XL) | 8 (S) |
| 23 cm | 8½ (XXL) | 8½ (M) |
| 24.3 cm | – | 9 (L) |
| 25.7 cm | – | 9½ (XL) |
| 27.1 cm | – | 10 (XXL) |

Between two sizes? Choose the smaller one
Lambskin, like deerskin or peccary leather, stretches slightly and takes the shape of your hand over the first few wears. If your measurement falls between two sizes, choose the smaller one: the glove will fit perfectly after a few days.
Lining and fit
A glove lined with cashmere or wool is a little "fuller" than a silk-lined or unlined glove. If you are unsure and have large hands, the next size up may be justified for a model with a thick lining. For an unlined driving glove, stick to your exact size, or even the smaller one.
The one-size solution
