Lambskin, deerskin or peccary: which leather for your gloves?
The choice of leather determines the feel, durability and style of your gloves. In glovemaking, three leathers dominate: lambskin, deerskin and peccary. Each has its own personality.
Lambskin: finesse and elegance
This is the king of glove leathers. Fine, supple and soft, lambskin fits the hand perfectly and allows delicate finishes: fine stitching, bows, pleats, embroidery. It is the ideal choice for a dress glove, from day to evening. The vast majority of our women's Prestige range is made of lambskin, lined with silk, cashmere or wool.
Deerskin: tough and warm
Thicker than lambskin, deerskin is renowned for its strength and a suppleness that increases over time. Its natural grain gives it a more rugged, masculine look. It is perfectly suited to driving gloves and winter gloves that see heavy wear.
Peccary: the exceptional leather
Peccary is recognisable by its characteristic pitted grain, made up of small groups of three dots. It is one of the most sought-after glove leathers: both very supple and remarkably hard-wearing, it gets better with age. A pair of peccary gloves is a lasting investment, prized by connoisseurs. And suede leather?
Suede lambskin (with the flesh side sanded) offers a velvety feel and a more relaxed style. You will find it in our Sport line gloves, often lined with boa for extra warmth.
