Silk, cashmere, wool or unlined: which lining for your gloves?
With the same leather, two gloves can offer a very different experience depending on their lining. It determines the warmth, the thickness and how the glove feels when worn. Here is how to choose.
Silk: lightness and elegance
Fine and soft, a silk lining provides light warmth without making the glove bulkier. The leather stays very close to the hand, for an elegant silhouette. It is the ideal choice for autumn, spring and mild winters, or for a dress glove.
Cashmere: warmth without bulk
Cashmere offers an excellent balance of warmth and slimness. Very soft to the touch, it insulates well against the cold while keeping the glove slim and close-fitting. It is the benchmark lining for a refined winter glove, as in our men's Prestige range.
Wool: the winter classic
Warm and breathable, a wool lining (or a wool and cashmere blend) suits harsh winters and everyday use. It is slightly thicker than pure cashmere.
Fleece and boa: for severe cold
Fleece or boa linings (long-pile faux fur) offer maximum insulation and cosy comfort. You will find them on our Sport line gloves and in our Standard range, perfect for outdoor activities.
Unlined: the pure feel of leather
An unlined glove offers direct contact with the leather, great precision of movement and an excellent grip. It is the rule for driving gloves, and a pleasant choice for spring and autumn.
Our advice
| Lining | Warmth | Ideal season |
|---|---|---|
| Unlined | Low | Spring, summer, driving |
| Silk | Light | Spring and autumn, evenings |
| Cashmere | Good | Winter in town |
| Wool | Good to high | Winter |
| Fleece, boa | High | Severe cold, outdoors |
A thick lining takes up a little room inside the glove: keep this in mind when choosing your size in our size guide.
